Trek Bicycle and World Bicycle Relief Join Forces with a Holiday Campaign to Benefit Rural and Underserved Communities

WATERLOO, WI – November 7, 2022 – Today, Trek Bicycle and World Bicycle Relief announced their second annual holiday fundraising campaign to provide reliable transportation to rural and underserved communities. Following a successful partnership in 2021 with $1.8 million raised worldwide, Trek named the specially designed Buffalo bike by World Bicycle Relief as its “Bike of the Year” for the second year in a row. Designed specifically to meet the needs of rural dwellers, the Buffalo bike is strong, simple in design and easy to maintain with the ability to carry people and heavy loads over long distances and over rough terrain. Through the end of the year, customers can donate to World Bicycle Relief in person at a Trek store in the United States or Canada or worldwide on the Trek website. Trek will match donations up to $500,000 with an end goal of $2.5 million for the nonprofit.

“In partnership with World Bicycle Relief, we were able to exceed our fundraising goal in 2021 and provided 11,000 Buffalo bikes to communities across Africa and South America,” said Bob Burns, vice-president. Advocacy Chairman of Trek Bicycle. “We’re setting our goals even higher this year to bring more Buffalo bikes into communities to help other grantees meet the distance challenge and become independent.”

These bikes are delivered to countries in Africa, Southeast Asia and South America and help students, health workers, farmers and entrepreneurs mobilize their communities. Bikes are assembled locally and distributed with trained program representatives to provide quality maintenance and support and help create a more sustainable infrastructure.
