Lander local wins Spartan Trifecta World Championship

(Sparta, Greece) – From 11/04 to 06/2022, Ciely Daly from Lander competed in the 2022 Spartan Trifecta World Championship. Held annually, this is a racing and obstacle course trifecta that tests speed, l agility, stamina and time in three races including Spartan Sprint (5k & 20 obstacles), Spartan Super (10k & 25 obstacles), and Spartan Beast (21k & 30 obstacles).

Ciely had planned a trip to Europe after graduating from Wyoming Catholic College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts. When she learned that the Spartan Trifecta World Championship would coincide with this trip, she signed up for it. Ciely won silver in Sprint, gold in Super and gold in Beast. This score made her the third world champion for women aged 18 to 24 for 2022! She attributes some of her success to a competitor who ran a close race right behind her in the Beast.

To compete in the world championship, an athlete must first compete in a qualifying trifecta, which Ciely did in Ta’Qali, Malta last October. However, his passion for athletics goes back much further. She grew up on Vashon Island in Washington State, where there were lots of trees to climb, fields to cross and forests to explore. WCC kicks off freshmen with a 21-day backpacking trip that Ciely absolutely loved.

On this basis, she became an instructor or co-instructor of hiking, winter camping, ice climbing, caving, rock climbing and whitewater kayaking. During the summers, she worked for a Lander-based trail crew maintaining the backcountry, hiking rough terrain, and hauling heavy loads. At the same time, she also ran long distances for exercise. Before graduating, she ran Lander’s Challenge for Charities Half Marathon twice and ran her first full marathon shortly before leaving for Europe. Obstacle courses tied all of these things together. Ciely ran her first Spartan Sprint 5k in Koenig Gravel, Michigan last July.

Regarding her motivation, Ciely said, “I wasn’t just racing for myself. I’m running to raise $3,000 for pregnancy resource centers that help women dealing with unplanned pregnancies. Also, I have a strong faith in God and a love for history, so walking through such a special place with such specific goals allowed me to take things one step at a time and overcome the pain.

Ciely also said there were too many people to count that she owed a lot of gratitude to, but among them were the staff at Wyoming Catholic College and COR Expeditions, her mentors and training partners who pushed her to grow stronger and taught her new things. skills. She also wants to make a special mention of the families in Wyoming, Italy and Greece who have “adopted” her throughout this journey, her own family who supports her and God who gives her strength. What’s next for Ciely? She is currently looking for new challenges both at home and abroad. She is eyeing the one-race championships for Spartan in Abu Dhabi in December, but is still looking for a sponsor. Other possibilities include an ultra or a half Ironman. She says that God will reveal these things in due time!
