Joe Allen set to fall short in fitness race to face United States | World Cup

Joe Allen is losing his battle to play for Wales in their Group B opener against the United States on Monday.

The midfielder is struggling to recover from a hamstring injury and may only be ready in time for Wales’ second game against Iran on Friday.

Allen, 32, is working separately with Sean Connelly, the Welsh physiotherapist who helped Joe Ledley recover from a broken leg in five weeks to play at Euro 2016. Allen has not played since he suffered his injury in September and his club, Swansea City, admitted his treatment could have been better managed.
