More than 2 million people identify as transgender in the United States, according to the Human Rights Campaign. Yet while transgender people may have gained representation in pop culture and everyday life in recent years, they still face severe discrimination, stigma, and inequality.

This week during Transgender Awareness Week, we speak with Dr. Kris Humphreys, primary care physician at Saint Luke’s Primary Care—Mission Farms and the only certified member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) in the region of Kansas City, on the importance of equity in health care for transgender people.
