Araujo, Miranda head to Guatemala for Women’s Softball World Cup Qualifiers

FULLERTON, Calif. – Associate Softball Head Coach Jorge Araujo and second-year pitcher Raci Miranda headline the Mexican squad that will compete in the Americas Qualifier for the 2024 Women’s Softball World Cup to be held at Guatemala.

Mexico will face the Dominican Republic in their first match on November 12. They will face Cuba on November 13. They will face Team WBSC on November 14. They will face Nicaragua on November 15 and complete the group game on November 16 against Peru and Canada.

Araujo and Miranda participated in the Mexican national team program all summer in Canada, Alabama and Mexico City.

The tournament features 14 teams divided into two groups of seven. Group A includes Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, the United States and Venezuela. Group B includes Canada, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and Team WBSC. The top four teams from each group will advance to the playoffs. The top five remaining teams in the final standings will qualify for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup. The World Cup group stage is scheduled to take place in 2023 in Ireland, Italy and Spain and the final stage that will crown the world champion will take place in 2024 in Italy.

This tournament will also serve as a qualifier for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago and the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador. The top six teams from this tournament will qualify for the Pan American Games, with the exception of the USA team which has already qualified.

All tournament games will be streamed live on the WBSC Americas Softball YouTube channel.
