France suffered another blow at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with Lucas Hernandez ruled out of the entire tournament after injuring knee ligaments in Tuesday’s 4-1 win over Australia.

Bayern Munich defender Hernandez, 26, limped off the pitch after injuring his knee in a collision with Mathew Leckie.

The Aussie beat Hernandez to the ball and kicked in the cross for Craig Goodwin’s opening goal.

“Like the whole group, players and staff, I am extremely sorry for Lucas,” Deschamps said in a short statement from the French FA confirming Hernandez’s injury.

“We are losing an important player. Lucas is a warrior. know him well and he is a brave player. On behalf of the group, I wish him the best possible recovery.
